Standard Book Sizes in the UK and US
Our Bookbands are made to fit two main UK book sizes,
B-Format (198 mm × 129 mm) typically used for paperbacks
Royal (234 mm × 156 mm) typically used for hardbacks
If you're unsure about book dimensions, here are the four most common formats used in each region.
UK Book Sizes
A-Format (178 mm × 111 mm)
Compact and portable, A-format books were once the go-to for airport fiction. Today, they’re often used for reprints of classics and niche genres like self-help or humour.
B-Format (198 mm × 129 mm)
The most popular paperback size in the UK, B-format is the standard for most fiction titles and widely available in bookstores.
Demy (216 mm × 135 mm)
A larger paperback format increasingly used instead of hardbacks. Common for airport fiction, it’s gradually replacing the smaller A-format.

US Book Sizes
Pocket Book (4.25 in × 6.87 in)
Designed to fit in a back pocket, this affordable and portable format is ideal for mass-market fiction and is commonly sold in airports and newsstands.
Digest (5.5 in × 8.5 in)
The smallest of the US trade sizes, Digest books are widely circulated and used for various types of paperbacks.
US Trade (6 in × 9 in)
A slightly larger trade paperback format, frequently used for fiction and general non-fiction.
Hardcover (6 in × 9 in to 8.5 in × 11 in)
US hardcovers vary in size but typically fall within this range. They’re used for everything from novels to coffee table books.
